Jasper Sanchez is a queer transmasculine author who writes glittery gay stories about characters who care a little too much.
Born and raised among idyllic California wine country vistas, he developed a fierce love-hate relationship with his suburban small town and an enduring passion for small-town museums. He earned his BA in anthropology from the University of Pennsylvania and his MA in cinema and media studies from UCLA. While neither degree prepared him for the neoliberal hellscape of late-stage capitalism, they did push him to join the IWW as a red card-carrying Wobbly. His firsthand organizing experience has deeply informed and inspired his writing.
After an extended interlude in the Pacific Northwest, Jasper accepted that he is a Californian at heart. He now lives in the North Bay with his cat, who might be more opinionated than he is. When he’s not writing, he can be found annotating lists of his favorite Star Trek episodes, and kvetching about capitalism.
Jasper is represented by Claire Friedman at InkWell Management. His debut novel, The (Un)Popular Vote, was a Junior Library Guild Gold Standard Selection and a 2022 ALA Rainbow List selection, and one of the SF Chronicle Datebook’s “2021's best books for young adults.” His short fiction has appeared in Mithila Review, Foglifter, and Plenitude.
Jasper’s next novel, Meet Me at the Picket Line, comes out May 26, 2026, from Harper/HarperCollins.
